Located to the south east of the island facing Lambogan and close to the Port of Padangbai for anyone wanting to catch the ferry the islands of Gilis and Lombok.

Candidasa has very few beaches, this was not always the case and is a great example of environmental erosion caused by Man, During 70s and 80s  a construction boom of hotels and villas in the area , using lime mined from the coral reef in the bay,Once the  bay is lost its natural protection, the erosion of beaches began …

Places to visit locally

The lotus lagoon is worth the detour, its best to visit before 11 o’clock because then the lotus start to close up,

Just across from the lagoon and up on the hillside is a temple dedicated to the goddess of fertility  Hariti.

The blue lagoon (Padangbai direction) is a nice place to snorkel safely, and a little further on is the white sand beach known for its beautiful sand.

Tirtagangga water palace can be found 17km further north and is defiantly worth a visit (click our link for more info)

We would not recommend staying in Candidasa as it does not have a lot to offer when compared to some other destinations, and does not warrant staying more than a night or two.. we chose it for the promise of safe snorkeling for the kids and also that it was located on the route back towards Ubud.

What we Liked

  • The Beach at our hotel for the girls to play on
  • The Girls Playing with the local children in the sea
  • The possibility to snorkel in front of the hotel in calm protected waters
  • The Lotus lagoon
  • The boat trips for snorkeling (although over priced when compared to Lovina and Amed)
  • The hotel pool

What we didn’t like

  • The Trafic on the highstreet
  • Lack of a real beach that you can walk along
  • Over priced restaurants and bars

We would not recommend staying in Candidasa as it does not have a lot to offer when compared to some other destinations, and does not warrant staying more than a night or two.. we chose it for the promise of safe snorkeling for the kids and also that it was located on the route back towards Ubud.
